Robin Vince, the chief executive officer of BNY, sat down with Northeastern University president Joseph E. Aoun for a conversation about how artificial intelligence is reshaping finance. The discussion, part of the Presidential Leadership Series, put the bank's technology bets in plain view.
Vince described AI as a tool that changes how work gets done across the firm, from back office operations to client facing services. He stressed that the bank is not chasing the technology for its own sake. The focus stays on reliability, security, and making sure systems hold up under real world pressure.
The conversation also touched on the workforce. Vince said employees need room to experiment with new tools while keeping a clear sense of responsibility. He framed AI adoption as a long term effort that requires training, governance, and patience rather than a quick fix.
BNY has been building out its data and engineering teams to support these goals. According to Vince, the bank sees AI as a way to speed up routine tasks so people can spend more time on judgment and relationships.
The event highlighted a broader shift on Wall Street, where banks are weighing the promise of automation against the risks of getting it wrong.
