The German broker Scalable Capital has announced that its customers can now use major artificial intelligence platforms, including ChatGPT and Claude, to place trades and review their investment portfolios. The company said on Tuesday that this new access method is a first for a European bank, adding another option alongside its existing mobile app and website.
The integration comes with a range of security features designed to protect user accounts while allowing the AI assistants to interact with financial data. Scalable's founder and co-CEO, Erik Podzuweit, described the move as a "first step" toward wider adoption of AI tools among its client base. He suggested that the company will eventually build the capability directly into its own app, which would mark a more significant shift in how customers manage their money.
For now, the service lets users ask the chatbots to execute trades or summarize their portfolio performance using natural language. This is part of a broader trend where financial firms are experimenting with generative AI to make investing more accessible. However, the decision to let external AI platforms handle trading tasks raises questions about data privacy and the accuracy of AI-generated financial advice. Scalable says it has put safeguards in place, but the long-term impact of letting chatbots manage real money remains to be seen. The company is positioning itself as an early mover in a space that is likely to become more competitive as other banks watch closely.
