Should You Buy Hyperliquid (HYPE) After Its Recent Surge?

Should You Buy Hyperliquid (HYPE) After Its Recent Surge?

The cryptocurrency market has a short memory, and the recent surge of Hyperliquid (HYPE) is a perfect example. After a sharp price increase that turned heads across trading desks, many investors are now asking the same question: should you buy in? The honest answer is more complicated than the price chart suggests.

Hyperliquid, a decentralized perpetual exchange built on its own Layer 1 blockchain, rode a wave of enthusiasm over the past few weeks. The project promised lightning-fast trades and lower fees than traditional centralized exchanges. For a while, the numbers backed up the story. Trading volume spiked, and the token price followed. But here is the problem: the hype has now outpaced the fundamentals.

Look at the tokenomics. A significant portion of the HYPE supply is still locked or held by early investors and the team. When those tokens unlock, selling pressure could hit the market hard. The recent price run was driven by speculative momentum, not by a sudden increase in actual users or revenue. The exchange itself is still competing against giants like Binance and dYdX, and it has not proven it can hold onto its user base during a market downturn.

The smart money right now is not chasing the top. It is watching from the sidelines. If you missed the initial pump, chasing it now is a gamble, not an investment. The risk of a sharp correction is high, especially if broader crypto sentiment shifts. Patience, not panic buying, is the better play here. Wait for the hype to cool down and for the real metrics to catch up before even thinking about a position.
