OpenAI Just Came for Wall Street’s Junior Bankers. Morgan Stanley Helped Build the Thing.

OpenAI Just Came for Wall Street’s Junior Bankers. Morgan Stanley Helped Build the Thing.

OpenAI has unveiled a new artificial intelligence product designed to handle the routine tasks that typically fall to junior bankers, and Morgan Stanley played a direct role in its development. The tool automates work like building pitch books, pulling comparable company data, and drafting initial valuation models, jobs that have long served as the training ground for analysts fresh out of college.

The collaboration puts Morgan Stanley in an unusual position. The bank helped shape a system that could reduce the need for the exact entry level roles it has relied on to groom future dealmakers. Junior bankers often work 80 to 100 hour weeks performing repetitive analysis, and the new tool aims to cut that load dramatically.

Industry observers note the irony. Banks have complained for years about burnout and turnover among young analysts, yet the solution now arriving may shrink the pipeline that feeds senior ranks. If the grunt work disappears, the question becomes how junior staff learn the craft and prove themselves.

OpenAI has not said which other banks will adopt the tool or when it will be widely available. Morgan Stanley has not commented on how the system will change its hiring plans. For now, the move signals that Wall Street is willing to automate its own training culture, even if the long term consequences remain unclear.
